Villa Stein, also known as Villa Garches, is a modernist villa located in Garches, a suburb of Paris, France. It was designed by Swiss architect Le Corbusier and completed in 1927.
The villa is considered a seminal work of modern architecture and is often cited as an example of Le Corbusier's "Five Points of Architecture," which include pilotis (supports), roof gardens, open floor plans, horizontal windows, and free facade design.
Villa Stein features a flat roof, smooth white stucco walls, and an L-shaped floor plan that wraps around a central courtyard. The interior is characterized by open, flexible spaces and clean, minimal design.
The villa was commissioned by the wealthy Stein family as a weekend retreat, and it remains a private residence to this day. Villa Stein is considered a significant example of early modernist architecture and is a designated historic monument in France.
